Everything Will Be Alright: Rainbows and Light Shows Inside and Outside the Home

Take a bowl of water and a mirror. Look for a ray of light. Bring your rainbow to life and let it dance within your walls, in your neighbors' homes, on the school's online platform. Bring us your wonder, your smile, your full and pure joy. Give us back hope and courage, give us back a glimpse of the future.

Thus, in week four of forced school closures, the school is responding to a social provocation, a buzz that has enlivened the lives of children and families during these weeks of isolation: the drawing of a rainbow with the caption "Everything will be fine," which children have begun posting on our online platform.

Hence, a provocation from our atelierista: let's play with light, children, let's play at home, let's chase broken rays, let's create rainbows, and let's shout it out loud, in the three languages children speak in their daily lives at school (Italian, English, and Chinese): soon we'll hug each other again.

The response from the children and families at the school has been astonishing. The walls of our digital platform have been flooded with photographs, videos, and written material, as well as reflections, reasoning, hypotheses, experiments, and research. From our little ones in nursery school, to our preschoolers, to our elementary school students: a flurry of light, a never-ending quest imbued with that joy and wonder that we know to be the essence of things, the essence of knowledge, the essence of life; that joy and wonder that are also our way of being together, every day at school and every day, now, between our computer screens.

And from the children's messages, from their ability to laugh and be amazed even in complex weeks like these, we know that everything will be okay because, as the children tell us..
